Target audience research - vox pop

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34rFsA5L64g

Vox pop stands for vox populi which is an interview with members of the general public. This was conducted as part of the research prior to the planning and development stage of the music video. Interviews were carried out with a variety of people. This acted as effective research as asking open questions provided qualitative data. When carrying out the vox pop, varied questions were formed and then asked. As they were different to those in the questionnaire, the research carried out is broad and provides an accurate perception of the target audience. This therefore allowed us to gain an understanding of what the audience would find appealing within a music video. It allows all members of the group to understand what the viewers expect and want from a video of the pop genre. The individuals who were interviewed consisted of 4 girls and 2 boys therefore the results can be generalised to both males and females. The music video will therefore appeal to both genders which is typical of the pop genre. The results obtained from carrying out the vox pop were discussed in order to decide as to what should be incorporated within the music video in order to build upon what was already decided. This part of the research therefore assisted us in the planning stage as it developed our knowledge of the audience and what they deem as an effective music video.

  1. You have made a start in explaining why you carried out vox pops, as part of your primary research. Now you need to explain what questions you asked and what you found out.

Also aim to discuss, how your research will assist you with planning your own music video. What will your video contain?
